For sale in Eugene, Oregon:
This Arthur Allen four shaft counterbalance loom is in good working condition. I have replaced the missing aprons with tie on ribbons and rods, and replaced some of the cabling with Texsolv.
This loom is a four shaft, six treadle, folding counterbalance floor loom made by Arthur Allen of Oregon. The date of manufacture is unknown but the internet seems to suggest these looms were made around the 1940s to 1960s. It comes with two carbon steel reeds: a 12 dpi 42.5” reed and a 8 dpi 36” Leclerc reed (which is slightly longer than 36 since they use metric measurements). The wood is sturdy and has aged very well, with a deep brown color and smooth finish.
I have put a small sample warp on it so you can see it is in working condition.
The loom has 1,034 flat steel heddles, spread across the four shafts: 287 on shaft 1, 231 on each of shaft 2 and shaft 3, and 285 on shaft 4. The heddles are 10 inches from tip to tip. Even if you bought this just to reuse the heddles it’d be a great deal.
The dimensions of this loom are: 48.5” tall, 50.25” wide, 34 3/4” deep when unfolded. It does appear to fold but I have not fully folded it.
Asking $280.
