Located in Eugene Oregon. Asking $550 with reed or $515 without.
I am selling a four shaft Harrisville Designs floor loom in excellent condition. I have recently finished restoring an eight shaft HD loom and no longer need this one.
This loom is in excellent working condition, and some of the photos will show the project I just finished on it. The weaving width is 22 inches. It is a four shaft direct tie-up jack loom with 120 heddles. Direct tie-up means it is simple to prepare and operate, as each shaft is connected to only one treadle and you just push down as many as you want to move.
This loom is designed as a transportable loom for workshops. It folds up easily for moving or storage. I have taken this loom to a workshop at Eugene Textile Center and it was very easy to do. I can teach you how to properly prepare and fold the loom for transportation.
I am a mechanical engineer by training and a hobbyist woodworker. I have made the following modifications or repairs to this loom:
1) I replaced all of the original leather harness cables with new wire cables.
2) I added plastic shields to most of the exposed bolt ends.
3) I added furniture bumpers to the spot where the beater rests against the castle, to prevent damage and make operation quieter.
4) I added a pin system that will hold the beater in place during sleying or to prevent passers-by from idly moving it while you are not at the loom.
5) I replaced a missing brake cable with a piece of paracord and a missing brake spring with a thick rubber band. Both are easily replaceable or adjustable as needed.
The included accessories with this loom are:
22” carbon steel 10 dent reed (optional, see price information)
21” stick shuttle
240 flat steel heddles (48 on shaft 1, 72 on shaft 2, 72 on shaft 3 and 48 on shaft 4)
Metal pins for holding the beater in place while sleying
One metal handle that can be used with the older style of HD loom. Handles for this loom are no longer sold by Harrisville Designs due to a change in manufacturer availability.
This loom can use any length of reed because HD looms are designed to allow extra reed length to stick out the ends. This is useful if you already have a longer reed; you don’t have to buy smaller ones for your HD loom. You can see I used a 36” reed (with red edges) in the photo, above, of the loom being used to weave. That reed is not included in this sale.
Approximate loom dimensions are as follows:
Castle height: 42”
Floor space, unfolded : 28” x 32”
Floor space, folded : 28” x 13”
Nonsmoking, fragrance free home with no dogs. We do have cats.
Asking $550 for everything. If you don’t want the 10 dpi reed I will reduce the price by $35 for a total of $515. Pickup from Santa Clara area of north Eugene, or delivery is possible for a fee depending on distance.
