Listing the last loom from the upstairs of the shop where I work! Hooray! For the taking today is a 2 harness 2 treadle JL Hammett rug loom with a 32” weaving width. I have no idea how many owners this little loom has had but there are signs that each owner adapted to his or her own style. For example: the loom was set up with the treadles hinged at the back and upside down with eye hooks to tie up. When I removed that treadle beam to check things out the treadles have clear spaces on the other side for hardware. The reason I was wanting to check things about is because the spring that holds the the brake up (as shown on various looms I was able to look at on the internet) was on the front foot beam. I thought heck! I’ll just switch the beams since some pictures that I looked at on the internet have the treadles attached at the front. I did that , and that is how the loom is shown in the pictures. I’m not really sure it is correct as I think the pre- marked holes on the treadles do not line up as well with the harnesses this way. This loom will have to come apart to get downstairs so I left it this way. Another example of some individual style is that someone along the line added “L” braces in some of the corners to reinforce or square the loom. In the pictures you will see the cloth beam advance handle on the floor. I did not take the loom apart enough to put that back in it’s home since loom will have to come apart to move anyhow.

One thing that I do love is that the model number is marked on so many of the parts! E-508-5. Pretty neat!

This last photo shows the worst of it. Is that how aluminum corrodes? I think steel wool would clean it up. I am unsure if the reed can be saved - it would need to be cleaned and the few bent tines straightened. There are about 150 heddles in nice shape on each harness of the loom.

I think this could be a terrific rug loom if someone gave it some TLC! It is a sweet size and has obviously been a work horse over the years! Plus a little piece of history!

(As an aside: the person who bought the 2 table looms said gee! You made them sound so bad in the ad! They are really pretty great! I just want to be sure to list any little thing that is not perfect so that you have a clear picture of what is actually for sale. No surprises!)

$150 cash on pick up in Erie, PA Thanks for looking!!
