Kessenich floor loom, oak, built approximately 1976
36 inch width, 8 shaft, 10 treadles
approximately 950 flat steel heddles
$1,200

Located in northeast Illinois, USA. Pickup only.

I purchased the loom in 2011 and refurbished it according to the instructions from the current owner of Kessenich Looms. After thoroughly cleaning it, some pieces were refinished. Then the entire loom was waxed. I also replaced all of the disintegrating bumper material, fixed the warp beam tensioner, and added additional treadle chains.

It’s definitely a workhorse loom that has seen some years, but it is a pleasure to use and has no significant damage (no cracks, warped parts, or gouges).

My last project on it was in March 2018, but I simply don’t have room for it any more.

Kessenich looms are a bit quirky, but they are one of the rare folding jack looms that are sturdy enough to hold a warp at high tension.

Extras:
8, 12, and 15 d.p.i. carbon reeds. The 8 d.p.i. reed is bent approximately 2 inches from one end, reducing its usable width. There are a few warping sticks.

Kessenich warping board (the loom acts as a stand for the board when winding a warp)

Cranbrook 36-in wide bench. This maple bench was in bad shape, so I had it stripped and tightened. It has not been refinished as I think the previous stain needs to be bleached. But I’ve used it for years as-is!

Non-smoking house.

Photos are not glamorous due to poor winter light, but please contact me if you want more photos or have questions.
