I am selling my 24 shaft, 70cm (27”) Louet Magic Dobby loom.
This loom comes loaded. First, I will list the standard parts that she probably came with new:
- 10 dent reed (I think it’s stainless steel)
- “swinging” beater (very similar to what is on the new Louet Erica)
- stand
- tie on bars
- warping sticks
- lease sticks
- hand lever
- treadle
- removable raddle -- same type of raddle as on Louet floor looms
But that’s not all! Here is all the extra stuff she comes with
- Mechanical dobby head and accessories. That includes the entire set-up to attach the dobby mechanism to the loom, plus about 80 dobby bars and more pegs than I’d ever want to count. Also included is a special kind of weight to help the dobby mechanism work well when you have a lot of dobby bars in use.
- Electronic dobby head and accessories. It has both a serial and a USB port, so you can choose whichever works best with your computer. I believe it was brand new in box when I acquired the loom. That is, I believe it was never used before I purchased the loom, and I have only used it for one project. You would obviously have to provide your own computer and weaving software.
- SO MANY HEDDLES. The previous owner told me there are 100/shaft. That would mean 2,400 heddles total. I have never bothered to count. It is very unlikely you would ever need to buy more heddles for this loom.
- standing beater
- second back beam
All the parts I’ve tried on this loom work. (I have not tried the treadle or standing beater, but I believe the previous owner used both of them successfully.) I have woven 24 shaft drafts using both the mechanical and electronic dobby systems.
This loom is in good condition. There is are some parts that show cosmetic wear, but work just fine. There is one texsolv cord that is frayed/fuzzy, but it seems to be cosmetic and not affect function. If it ever became problematic it would be incredibly simple to replace. Being a table loom (on a stand), this type of loom has its quirks and limitations compared to a full sized floor dobby loom. I feel that I have worked through many of these quirks, and would be happy to provide whatever wisdom I could about getting this little lady to work to her best ability.
This is a really fantastic loom for anyone curious about exploring more-than-8-shaft weaving/design, and a fabulous stepping stone or studio addition that takes up only a fraction of the space and cost of a full sized dobby floor loom. It’s also potentially a great loom for kids or for people who have limited mobility with their legs, because it can be operated manually if you choose. My 7 year old had a lot of fun weaving on her, and was completely capable of using the hand lever to make nice sheds with all 24 shafts in use.
I bought this loom from another Ravelry member who offered her to me for an amazing discount. I am hoping to do the same. If bought new, this loom and her accessories/add-ons would cost somewhere in the ballpark of $11,000. I am selling her for $2,500 cash. Shipping is not available -- you will need to pick her up/transport her from my home in Keene, NH.
If you are interested, I have two additional 28” stainless steel reeds (8 and 12 dent) that have never been used. I will throw them in with the loom purchase for $100 (total), if you want them. They are a touch too wide to fit into the swinging beater, but they do fit in the standing beater.
I also have a Harrisville bench that I am offering for free with another loom I am selling. I have only ever used the Magic Dobby standing up (my son kneeled on a dining room chair), but if there are no takers for that bench with the other loom, I am happy to send her off to a new home with this loom for no additional charge.
