I’m selling a Japanese Silk Spool winder with an automatic shifting thread guide. Comes with four spools which work with the winder. It’s a beautiful, curious functional object to have in your workspace!
Functions like a “cone-winder” for winding very fine silk threads and slippery/fragile yarns. Useful for those who dye fine yarn for weaving. The mechanical auto-shifting thread guide moves the thread side-to-side onto the spool and is helpful if you are using this for reeling silk cocoons.
The winder body is in excellent condition, with some slight rusting to the metal hooks which hold the spool in place. I lost the Japanese instructions, but it’s quite simple to use and set-up
The wooden spools do have some dye stains (from my messy workspace!), and one spool has a small chip on one of the “feet” but it has no effect on function. More of these spools can be purchased from the Inagaki Kiryou weaving supply shop in Kyoto, Japan (about $6 each). Replacement drive bands can be purchased as well, though they are still in great condition.
If purchased NEW from Inagaki Kiryou, the spool winder alone sells for about $327 USD (including Japan sales tax, this price excludes Japan proxy buying service fees and shipping from Japan, which can significantly add to the cost).
