ISO: 8 dent reed

$

I’m taking a weaving class with my 4 harness table loom, and will need an 8 dent reed in Jan or Feb. My loom can take a reed max approx. 5” tall by 25 7/8” long (outside edge, not weaving width.) Longer is ok, as I can cut it down and maybe share with my classmates!

I would prefer stainless steel.

Thanks for considering!

The Tavern Spinners and Weavers Guild has a large tapestry loom for sale - $1000 - local pickup, Heathsville VA

It was donated to us and we don’t have room for it.

Our understanding is that this loom was specially made for the original owner, so we have no maker name. The loom is 10’ wide and appears to have a 9’ weaving width. We have good assembly instructions and pictures. There are 2 harnesses, some sort of reed and treadle system. I can provide additional pictures if you will private message me.

Four shaft Leclerc Nilus 36” floor loom. This jack loom has a solid, heavy duty frame in which the warp beam folds to reduce footprint when not in use. Includes a 10 dent reed, wooden lease sticks, flat heddles, older but serviceable aprons on warp/cloth beams, and four rods. The nylon lines visible amongst the heddles are the very latest in modern repair heddle technology. Warp may/may not be woven off.

Since reconditioning, this loom has been lightly used to verify proper function. It is ready to provide reliable service to its new owner. It is stored in conditioned, nonsmoking space in which there are no pets. We are selling it to standardize loom models in our weaving school.

$700

Located in the Kilmarnock/White Stone/Irvington area of Virginia. Local/regional delivery assistance available; mileage charge may apply depending upon distance.

Thank you.

When you see this Glimakra Standard for the first time, you are likely to exclaim… oh my gosh! What beautiful wood.

This Glimakra has the most beautiful wood of any Glimakra I have ever seen. The husband of the previous owner was a custom furniture maker, so he created beautiful custom treadles, and a pair of custom warp stick catchers. This master woodworker also carefully lightly sanded by hand to preserve the original wood patina, then preserved and beautified the wood as he would do with fine antique furniture. The wood is healthy and glows, but does not shine. Custom wedges that hold the loom togethe are made from dark walnut.
IMG_2248.JPG

IMG_2249.JPG

Weaving width: 135 cm or 53”

This is the “Goldilocks” width. The 47” is too narrow to weave the maximum width you can throw. The 59” is too wide. 53” is “just right” if you want to throw the shuttle without a fly shuttle attachment, yet maximize your weaving width. A bonus is that this 53” loom has the same footprint as a current 47” loom.

Parts can be purchased from GlimakraUSA for this loom, if you wish to expand it.

custom treadles
custom walnut wedges for holding the loom together or use the original ones
10-dent Stainless steel 54” Glimakra reed in new condition
8 shafts (can add 2 to bring to 10)
10 treadles (can add treadles & lamms for shafts beyond 10)
new Texsolve heddles (no old cotton heddles)
Countermarche (horizontal)
Upper short set of lamms and lower long set of lamms
brake release lever
All Texsolve cord. No old cotton cording.
Apron cords and tie-on rods
Cords from countermarch and lamms to treadles
pair of custom warp stick catchers.
lease sticks
warp sticks
shaft holders for 8 shafts
fabric protector board which fits in a slot in front of the breast beam
rubber loom feet
This loom can be converted to dobby using a Toika conversion

Unlike some older Glimakra looms which have both sets of lamms the same length, this loom was modernized to the current lamm lengths, with upper short lamms and lower long lamms, just like a new Glimakra. This loom can be upgraded to 10-shafts, or if the shafts are changed to the thinner shafts, this loom frame will accommodate 16 shafts.

It pains me to sell this loom, because it is so beautiful, and I drove all the way to Idaho to buy it. I am selling this loom because I have way, way too many looms, and I think that realistically, I am never going to weave on this loom. I am trying to get down to 3 floor looms, still won’t be there after this one is sold. I need to fit comfortably into my house. I have come to the conclusion that there are Scandinavian- loom people and jack- + mixed-type- loom people and I am “not” one of the Scandinavian loom people. I am one of those others… the jack and Louet folks. People who love Glimakra REALLY love Glimakra. Before I bought this, I read every Glimakra owner’s description of their loom, and “absolutely perfect” summed up the many responses. Unfortunately, weaving on a Glimakra does not suit me, because I really love this loom.

I was asked about the age of this Standard. I do not know. I am the third owner, and was not told when I bought it. It is in excellent condition and in the end, that is the most important aspect of a used loom. I know that the beater bar has 2 bolts, and a single bolt was replaced by 2 bolts on the beater in 1982, so it is newer than 1982. Plastic beater pin started in 1979 and it has that. But whether is is 1982 or 1992 or 2000, I have no idea, but my guess would be that is it 20-25 years old, so 1990’s, but might be 1980’s, definitely later than 1982.

If you disagree with any of this posting content, I would appreciate a personal message, rather than the disagree button, as I cannot change anything based on a “disagree”.

Marshall, NC

Sturdy handmade floor loom. This loom is styled like a Leclerc Fanny loom with a folding back beam. It has a Leclerc cloth beam and shafts with a sectional warp beam and cloth aprons. There are approximately 1000 twisted wire heddles and includes an 8 dent reed. The ratchet and pawl and take up lever were missing so we configured one. We also replaced the top bar of the counterbalance. Please see the pictures. I have woven several items on this loom from scarves to rugs. Local pick up or could arrange to deliver or meet within a reasonable distance.

It’s time to break up. Jane is a great girl with lots going for her. But, well, it’s not her, it’s me. I just can’t enjoy her levers. I even cut her second project off after 20” because I just couldn’t pretend anymore. She deserves to be loved instead of sitting alone under the bed, crying softly.

Louet Jane 15.5” table loom with stand. Like new. $1200.
North Texas area, pick up only.

Includes:

  • three SS reeds: 12 dent, 10 dent (still in packaging), 6 dent (older)

  • all paperwork and warping DVD

  • extra heddles (50 on each shaft)

  • lease sticks

  • packing sticks (can only find 7 of these for some reason, but honestly these are the worst packing sticks ever and I’m happy to include the cardboard drywall shims cut to size that I used)

  • additional metal apron rod

  • replacement rollers which are not installed (I never had trouble with the old ones)

  • all included hardware and longer apron cords for mounting warp and fabric beams on stand

I am selling a 15” 8 Shaft Northwest Pioneer Table Loom.

The loom has new cloth aprons (not pictured, but just need to be screwed into the existing holes on the beams) and side rails, and can be warped on the loom, avoiding the need for a warping board. Instructions are included.

Per the manufacturer: “The Northwest Pioneer Loom is a highly portable, tabletop model which optimizes flexibility, portability & compactness. The Pioneer Loom features a unique open top heddle, open reed operating mechanism which facilitates on the loom warping to a recommended maximum of 24 EPI & the flexibility to change warp threading while weaving without having to cut the warp. ”

Asking $225. Would prefer not to ship as loom is bulky and would be expensive to ship. Pick-up in SE Connecticut or Bronx, NY.rigid heddle loom

FS: LeClerc table warping mill- $95 - SF Bay Area

Selling a Leclerc tabletop warping mill (vertical). This model will wind up to a 22-yard warp, according to Leclerc. (I think that’s stretching it - you would have to use small bouts and wind very carefully - but yes, you could do it.) It folds to require very little space when folded.

This warping mill is functional but I think it’s missing something at the top that would fasten the rotating wooden arms to the axle, and perhaps also something at the bottom that would fix the axle to the base. Currently the only thing holding the arms to the axle and the axle to the base is gravity, meaning that if you want to move it, you need to pick it up from the base or the whole thing comes apart. However, it is a functional warping mill, and you can use it to wind warps just fine. I’ve only found the mill to have issues when moving it around. (I’m selling because I bought a much larger warping mill and don’t have room for both.)

Retail for a new Leclerc table warping mill is $275. Because of the missing part, I’m asking only $95. I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area (Sunnyvale). Will not ship.

Clearing out my garage, selling this inkle loom as I now have a much nicer, custom one. This is an Ashford inkle loom that has been stained a dark color. The previous owner, for some reason, fastened large washers at the ends of the pegs. I think you could remove them by unscrewing the screw holding the washer in place - I haven’t tried, though, as I’ve never used this loom.

Retail on a new Ashford inkle loom this size is $110. Asking $50. I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area (Sunnyvale) - will not ship.

FS: Hand made weaving shuttles

$
0

For late fall, I have a small batch of hand-crafted wood boat shuttles for sale for use with 4” bobbins, and some quill shuttles for use with 6” quills.

The shuttles are constructed of multiple layers of native woods including black walnut, curly maple (including bird’s eye, tiger, big leaf, fiddleback, and burl maple), curly cherry, quarter-sawn oak, and Hawaiian koa. The black walnut is plantation raised from a family farm in Minnesota.

The shuttles are highly contoured, shaped, and finished for ease of use. Because they are handmade, no two shuttles are alike. The fine finish is achieved through a lengthy finishing process using multiple grades of sandpaper through
2000 grit. They are then finished with multiple coats of sealant shellac, oil-based urethane, and carnauba wax for durability and to bring out the best of the wood grain and natural color.

The shuttles have a polished bobbin rod made from
high-grade 4mm or 3.5mm dia. stainless steel. The rod works by an internal wire spring action to stay in the open or closed position.

Shuttles available are shown in the photos below, top followed by a bottom view. Shuttle prices are listed at the head of each section for boat or quill shuttles. See photo captions for specific wood layering used, weight, length, and height dimensions.

Requests for shuttles are reserved and processed in the order received. Please do not respond directly to this ad in this Forum according to the Forum rules. You can either PM me, or email for additional details at: jon@hayman.us.

ISO: two 32" reeds

I’d really like two 8 dent 32” reeds
Will consider one 8 dent and one of another gauge, if the price is right.
Could even settle for one being only 24” long!

You see, I’m considering two 32” LeClerc Initiation floor looms for the Rec. Dept. of the nursing home where I volunteer. A great buy, I think, at $150, BUT they have no reeds. Maybe you’ve upgraded to Stainless Steel and would like to sell your old Carbon Steel ones? (assuming they’re in good condition, of course) The nursing home is kept Very Warm and Dry so I don’t think rust would be a problem for us. ? ?

Please let me know what size/dent reed(s) you have to offer and I’ll put together the best combination that I can. I’d like to get the ladies up and weaving as quickly and inexpensively as possible!

Edited to add: I’m in NE Connecticut, in case anyone is close enough that we might meet halfway instead of shipping.
